Nowadays, one of the most common detoxifying treatments recommended by natural health practitioners is colon cleansing. This is not surprising, given that the colon is extremely important in maintaining health and wellbeing. When the colon becomes clogged, bacteria and toxins begin to collect inside your digestive system because they can no longer be removed from your body through the normal digestive process. These toxins are then recycled back in to your system, affecting other parts of your body and continuing to accumulate over time. As a result, a blocked colon can lead to many problems, such as a bloating, acid reflux, asthma, allergies, constipation and diarrhoea.

Colon cleansing is the catch word of the day and so anything that will help you cleanse your system is in. Just like the variety of products that are available in the market to help you cleanse your system, there are many foods too which will do the same. The colon cleansing products will do a more through job than the colon cleansing foods you consume but with time and perseverance they will have a greater effect and that too without decreasing the cleansing capacity of your intestines. The first and foremost need of colon cleansing is for the reduction of chances of colon cancer. Therefore, the preferred food for this would be green vegetables and food matter which contain a lot of roughage in them. Any plant based diet scheme is the healthiest for your colon and therefore your everyday meal should consist of lots of vegetables if you want to prevent colon cancer. Green vegetables, all kinds of fruits, nuts, grains and seeds are highly beneficial in cleansing your colon thoroughly. The benefit that you gain in intaking colon cleansing foods rather than intaking colon cleansing products is that it is not an added laxative but normal diet. Therefore there is no chance of your system getting used to a laxative and refusing to work without it. Your intestine stays normal and healthy, performing the function it has been designed to do. For better cleansing of the colon, certain soluble fibres are also required. Intake of oats and flax seeds will help provide these soluble fibres and increase beneficial bacteria in the body. But on a whole, foods like alfalfa, wheat, rice, cabbage, barley, apples, lemons, peas, carrots, cabbage, beets, barley, wheatgrass etc are the most beneficial colon cleansing foods. Water is a very important component of the same and drinking lots of water will ensure that all toxins are flushed away properly and all colon cleansing foods are working properly.
